Heads, 2002 by Alexander Brodsky
( three variations) with detail of textures below. Printed with base and dusted with sand, dust and glass beads

These are all examples of prints created using a variation on the techniques described. The use varies considerably from artist to artist and with the editions as well. These are all “process oriented” approaches that rely a great deal on the give and take in printing and the application of pigment or its removal. This process can be guided at best, but the results can not be predetermined. Working with these methods has a stronger connection to painting and etching than to traditional screenprinting. In the past part of the attraction of screenprinting was its ability to execute ideas simply and cleanly and to remove the “hand” from the image making process. These methods puts the hand back but in a place it has not been before.
